US Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell said Wednesday that additional interest rate hikes will likely be needed in 2023 despite the Fed decision to pause increases for now.
“Looking ahead, nearly all committee participants view it as likely that some further rate increases will be appropriate this year to bring inflation down to two percent over time,” Powell said at a press conference after the rate decision was announced.
