French authorities have arrested four people, including two Chinese nationals, suspected of spying on sensitive military data via satellite for Beijing, prosecutors said Wednesday.
The four individuals were arrested Saturday in the southwestern Gironde region after allegedly renting an Airbnb to carry out the interception of data, including military intelligence, according to the Paris prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutors said the suspects were brought before an investigating judge following their arrest, confirming a report in French daily Le Parisien.
The probe, led by the prosecutor’s cybercrime unit and the DGSI domestic intelligence agency, focuses on the “delivery of information to a foreign power” likely to harm national interests.
Prosecutors have requested that two of the suspects be detained, the office added, though no details were provided on their identities.
