French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday said the European Union should deploy its anti-coercion instrument — dubbed the “bazooka” — if Donald Trump goes ahead with his threats to hike levies on European cars.

Slamming the US president for brandishing “threats of destabilisation” over his vow to raise tariffs from 15 to 25 percent, Macron, on a visit to Armenia, said the EU had “equipped itself with instruments that would then have to be activated, because that is precisely what they are for”.
