Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter as well as Tesla and SpaceX, gave a rare interview to the BBC on Tuesday. “Doing a Twitter Spaces interview in 10 mins with the @JamesClayton5 of @BBC,” Elon Musk tweeted ahead of the full interview.

Musk spoke with BBC’s correspondent James Clayton at Twitter HQ.

“On Tuesday lunchtime I typed another email, requesting a chat about his first six months as Twitter boss,” BBC’s James Clayton said. “To my surprise, he responded.”

“Sure, how about tonight?” he said.

Musk discussed a variety of topics during his 90-minute interview, including company layoffs, a new CEO, Blue subscriptions, and misinformation. The interview was also streamed on Twitter Spaces.

Elon Musk defended the manner in which Twitter employees were fired as the company reduced its workforce from 8,000 to 1,500, BBC reported.

He stated that the company had faced bankruptcy if it did not “cut costs immediately,” while also admitting that the process was “painful” for him.
