Georgia said Thursday it was concerned over reported plans to establish a Russian navy base in the breakaway region of Abkhazia, calling the move a violation of its sovereignty.

“We express concern over the statement of Russia’s occupation regime in Sukhumi regarding the establishment of an additional Russian military base on Georgia’s occupied territory,” the foreign ministry in Tbilisi said, adding that “such acts are a flagrant violation of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
