Android TV box is a technology getting popular for all the right reasons. The box gives your television all the features of a Smart TV. It can cut your entertainment bill in half and still provide so many great options. You can download apps like Netflix, and YouTube and stay connected to the internet. Although if you have a slower internet connection, things can go south.

Android TV boxes are easily accessible and user-friendly. If the internet connection is running slow on your box, you can probably fix it yourself. So, before you call Spectrum internet customer support, you can try a bunch of stuff on your own.

Android TV Box Connection

You might be wondering what kind of connection should you have for your Android TV box. Well, it doesn’t matter because they work well with everything. You can connect them to a wireless or wired internet router. The connection can be satellite, cable, or FiOS. The only thing important is the speed of your internet. Android TV boxes just don’t fare well with a slow connection.

You will start to notice slower downloads and constant buffering if your connection is slow. Moreover, the apps might function less efficiently. So, you need to troubleshoot your internet connection to enjoy all the entertainment options.

Move the Route

The position of the router in your house is pretty crucial. You should make sure that there are no dead zones in your home. Therefore, it is best to place your router in a more central position in your house. The router signals cannot pass through solid objects like walls and doors. So, you should check where your router is and whether or not the signals reach your Android TV box.

If your TV is in a room far away from the router, your internet speed can get slow. You can check multiple spots for your router. Then choose the one that works best for all parts of the house.

Check the Wi-Fi Frequency

The Wi-Fi speed and frequency are totally different things. More recently, routers come with two available frequencies. The traditional 2.4 GHz and the new 5 GHz frequencies can affect your internet speed. If your router is on the 2.4 GHz, you can shift it to 5 GHz and see if it makes a difference.

At 5 GHz, devices can transmit data more efficiently. Moreover, other standard devices can use 2.4 GHz and disrupt that signal line. So, changing to a different wavelength might not double the speed, but it definitely helps.

Uninstall Apps you Don’t Use

Your Android TV box can get slow if there are too many apps installed on it. You should only keep the apps that you use. If there are too many apps running in the background, they will eat up resources. Go to the list of apps and check if there are any unnecessary ones.

If you want to uninstall apps on your Android TV box, go to Menu -> Apps. You can then highlight the app you want to delete and press Uninstall. Freeing up space can improve the performance of your device.

Clear Cache Memory

Sometimes you can have trouble with just one app on your Android TV while the rest are working fine. If an app keeps crashing and working slowly, check the cache memory. The cache memory stores data so that the system can fetch it quickly next time. Sometimes a full cache can affect the speed and performance.

Deleting the cache memory can fix temporary glitches, and you may see a boost in speed. Here is how you can do it:

  • Go to the Android TV Box settings
  • Select App
  • Choose the preferred app and click on Clear Cache
  • Press OK

You can also delete all data and reset the app if this doesn’t work. Click on Clear Data, and it will reset the software.

Update the Software

People often ignore software updates thinking they are unnecessary. It is the most common mistake you can make. Software updates often have bug fixes and improvements. If your software is not up-to-date, it can cause it to slow down. It is best to always keep your software updated to the highest level.

Programmers and software developers work hard on software updates. It is improbable that a software update gets rolled out without reason. If there is an update pending, your software probably needs it.

Some Other Recommendations

All hope is not lost even if the above-mentioned tips don’t work. You can try some other things to boost up your internet speed. Here are some:

  • Download compatible apps only
  • Clear cookies now and then
  • Try using a wired connection to reduce interference
  • Close all apps running in the background

An Android TV box is a great way for constant entertainment. There is so much you can do with it. So, don’t let a slow internet connection get in your way.
