Macron urges ‘electoral bans’ for officials guilty of antisemitism or racism

France’s President Emmanuel Macron on Friday said he wanted “mandatory electoral bans” for officials guilty of “antisemitic, racist, and discriminatory acts and remarks”.

“Government and parliament will work to strengthen the penalties for antisemitic and racist acts,” he said during a commemoration speech for a young French Jewish man abducted and tortured to death in 2006, without elaborating.
