Malaysia’s ex-prime minister Najib Razak was sent to prison Tuesday shortly after the country’s highest court upheld his 12-year jail sentence for corruption in the 1MDB financial scandal, a family member said.

“We were told he has been taken to Kajang Prison, south of the capital Kuala Lumpur,” Nur Sharmila Shaheen, his daughter-in-law, told AFP.
