A strange 10-foot metal monolith suddenly appeared on a hillside in Wales, puzzling the people who live nearby, BBC reported. Walkers discovered the silver gleaming structure on Hay Bluff near the town of Hay-on-Wye in Powys over the weekend.

Popping up from the mud and towering at about 10 feet tall, many are asking on social media who put it there and why. Some are even wondering if it’s from outer space.

Strange 10ft tall structure appears on remote Welsh hill four years after global monolith trend

This comes after several monoliths appeared worldwide in 2020, emerging in places like the Isle of Wight to Romania, California, and the Utah desert. No one has admitted to making the Welsh monolith yet, Sky News reported. However, a group called The Most Famous Artist claimed they made similar structures in the United States in 2020.

In November 2020, people flying in a helicopter spotted a monolith in the remote Utah desert in the USA. However, it vanished just a few days later. Another one appeared atop Glastonbury Tor, an area rich in Celtic mythology, with the words “Not Banksy” carved on its side.

According to Richard Haynes, the person who spotted the monolith while running on the hill, told WalesOnline: “I went off towards Hay Bluff towards where the trig point is and I looked over to my right.

“I thought it looked a bit bizarre and might be a scientific media research thing collecting rainwater. But then realised it was way too tall and strange for that. Then I went up to it and it was about 10ft tall at least and triangular, definitely stainless steel. It was hollow and I imagine pretty light. Light enough for two people to carry it up and plant it in the ground.”

Locals describe baffling discovery of mysterious metal column on Welsh hillside

He described it as if someone had dug a big hole in the ground to hold up the column. Haynes mentioned that he ran along that route often and this was the first time he had spotted the object.

Another local builder Craig Muir said he was “taken aback” when he saw what he thought wass “some sort of a UFO” on his hike. “It seemed like a very fine metallic almost like a surgical steel,” he said, describing the monolith, a large single upright block usually made of stone,” he said.

This monolith is similar to one discovered on Compton Beach on the Isle of Wight four years back. It was also said to be about 10 feet tall and very reflective. The monoliths resemble the one seen in Stanley Kubrick’s movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
