New Japan PM says to accelerate 2% defence spending target

Japan’s new prime minister Sanae Takaichi said Friday she would try to achieve the country’s target of spending two percent of GDP on defence two years early.

The announcement came in her first policy speech in which she also warned that “the military activities of neighbouring countries – China, North Korea and Russia – have become a grave concern.”
