Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Wednesday that his election rivals had blood on their hands after contesting his victory, and vowed they would never be in power.

“You have blood on your hands,” Maduro said of opposition leader Maria Corina Machado and her candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia in comments to journalists after protests against his re-election left 16 dead.

“They will never, ever reach political power. I assure you and I know what I am saying, these criminals will never reach it.”
