Early voting in North Carolina has surged to a record high ahead of the November 5 presidential election, with over 4.2 million residents casting ballots in person by Sunday.
As a key battleground state, North Carolina’s turnout is especially high in western areas recently impacted by Hurricane Helene. So far, 57% of registered voters statewide have already voted in person.
Data from the North Carolina State Board of Elections shows that current early in-person voting figures have exceeded the previous record of 3.63 million set during the 2020 presidential election. Officials also noted that processing delays could mean actual participation is even higher.
The University of Florida’s Election Laboratory estimates that over 75 million votes have been cast nationwide, with over 40 million in person and around 34 million by mail.
