North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party (WPK) sent a formal message to the Communist Party of China on Wednesday, calling US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last week a “shameless provocation.”
According to Pyongyang’s official Korean Central News Agency, the WPK called the US House of Representatives’ visit a “serious infringement” of Beijing’s sovereignty in a “solidarity letter” sent to the party’s central committee the day before.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the WPK then expressed “full support” for the CPC and the Chinese government in their “just and legitimate” steps to “resolutely repulse US arbitrariness” and pledged to continue offering full support over the Taiwanese issue.
Pyongyang’s foreign ministry quickly responded to Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan last week, calling it “impudent interference” in the internal affairs of another country.
In the midst of rising Washington-Beijing tensions, North Korea has recently emphasised its strong ties with China.
