Oil prices extended gains Thursday after US President Donald Trump threatened Iran, a major crude producer, with military strikes and warned that time was running out for a deal on curbing Tehran’s nuclear programme.
In London afternoon trading, the main US oil contract, West Texas Intermediate, jumped 5.1 percent to $64.43 a barrel.
The Brent North Sea crude international benchmark climbed 5.0 percent to $71.84 a barrel, after topping $70 for the first time since September earlier in the day.
