US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth called Saturday on Washington’s Asian allies and partners to rapidly boost their military spending in the face of the threat from China.
“US allies in the Indo-Pacific can and should quickly upgrade their own defences,” the Pentagon chief said at Singapore’s Shangri-La Dialogue, adding that “deterrence doesn’t come on the cheap”.
