According to a poll, 92% of voters blame Kamala Harris for Biden’s health coverup. This YouGov/Times of London poll surveyed 1,170 registered voters from July 22 to 23.
The poll took place after President Biden announced he wouldn’t run for re-election but before he gave a farewell speech from the Oval Office on Wednesday night.
Majority of voters believe Kamala Harris knew about Biden’s health during debate controversy
An overwhelming 92% of respondents think Harris was aware of the president’s worsening condition, which became undeniable even for mainstream media after his debate mishap with former President Donald Trump in Atlanta last month. Although Biden’s issues have been openly discussed by conservatives since he took office in 2021, this incident brought them to broader attention, NY Post reported.
More than two-thirds of voters think Harris had complete knowledge of the president’s deterioration and chose not to reveal it. Additionally, 17% believe she was “somewhat” involved in the coverup, and 7% think she knew “a little.” The one saving grace for Harris is that only 22% of Democrats believe she knew a great deal about Biden’s issues, despite her likely nomination for the presidency without input from voters.
Among the 92% of respondents who believe Harris was involved in covering up Biden’s decline, most think she knew a lot about his issues but chose to stay silent. Overall, 68% say she had enough knowledge of Biden’s deterioration. This belief is shared by 78% of Republicans, 73% of independents, and 82% of self-identified conservatives, who all think the Vice President played a central role in the coverup.
Few on the left think Harris was unaware of Biden’s issues
Only a small number on the left—12% of Democrats and 7% of liberals—believe Harris knew nothing about the president’s problems. With Biden expected to finish his term, the right is already using voters’ perception of the VP’s deception as a political weapon.
Donald Trump’s MAGA Inc. super PAC released an ad this week accusing Harris of being part of the coverup, deliberately hiding “Joe’s obvious mental decline.”
Voters were also asked if the US was ready to elect a woman as president: 54% said yes, 30% said no, and 16% were undecided. This result is more negative than a similar YouGov poll from May 2015. It was the month after Hillary Clinton announced her presidential campaign when 63% of registered voters believed the country was ready for a female leader.
