Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday slammed the detention of a Russia-linked oil tanker by France as “piracy”.

“This is piracy. I am aware of this case – the tanker was seized in neutral waters without any justification,” he said in response to a question on the matter, adding that there was no military cargo on the vessel.
