Putin hosts Victory Day military parade on Moscow’s Red Square

President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday opened Russia’s Victory Day parade on Red Square in Moscow, a bombastic celebration of the Soviet Union’s victory over Nazi Germany, overshadowed by military setbacks in Ukraine.

State television showed Putin positioned next to World War II veterans on Red Square where thousands of Russian army personnel in ceremonial uniform gathered to march to the accompaniment of a military brass band.
