US Secretary of State Marco Rubio called Friday for an end to the bloodshed in Ukraine as Russian and Ukrainian officials were to hold their first direct talks in three years, a US official said.
At a joint meeting in Istanbul with his Ukrainian and Turkish counterparts, they “discussed the importance of seeking a peaceful end to the Russia-Ukraine war”, with Rubio “reiterating the US position that the killing needs to stop”, State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said.
