Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Thursday promised “full support” from Germany for Finland’s bid to join NATO, after the Nordic country’s president and prime minister said they were in favour of joining the defence alliance without delay.
“I welcome Finland’s decision to speak out in favour of the country’s immediate accession to NATO. In a phone call with President (Sauli) Niinisto, I assured Finland of the German government’s full support,” Scholz wrote on Twitter.
