The container ship that crashed into a major bridge over Baltimore harbor early Tuesday, causing the structure to collapse almost immediately, had suffered a loss of power, Maryland state Governor Wes Moore said.

“We can confirm that the crew notified authorities of a power issue,” Moore said. When asked by reporters whether the ship had lost power before smashing into one of the columns supporting the bridge, he replied, “yes.”
