Slovakia briefly closed its border with Ukraine for security reasons after Russian forces bombarded the city of Uzhhorod close to the frontier, the authorities said on Wednesday.
Border police said on social media that the frontier posts had been shut for about two hours before reopening.
The customs administration said earlier in a statement “for security reasons, all border posts on the frontier with Ukraine are closed… until further notice”.
The Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod has suffered its largest Russian air attack since the start of the four-year war, with drones and explosions reported.
“We continue to monitor the situation very closely,” the Slovak police added.
According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia launched at least 800 drones at Ukraine on Wednesday, killing at least six people.
Hungary’s Foreign Minister Anita Orban “strongly condemned” the Russian attacks, which affected areas close to her country’s border where a Hungarian-speaking minority lives.
She said in a video posted on Facebook that she hoped no one was wounded.
