Smoke and fire reported at Eastern Market Metro station

DC Fire and EMS are en route to the Eastern Market Metro station following reports of a fire. Authorities confirm the evacuation of the station located in the 700 block of Pennsylvania Avenue, SE, with visible smoke emanating from the premises.

DC Fire and EMS first posted on X at 1:05 p.m. saying that crews had evacuated the Eastern Market Metro station for smoke on the platform.

Several individuals were evacuated from the station following a report from the D.C. Fire and EMS Department that an insulator under a railcar caught on fire. The fire has been extinguished.

Metro has announced the suspension of service for the Blue, Orange, and Silver lines between Federal Center and Stadium Armory. Shuttle buses will be deployed to assist in passenger transportation.

Shortly after 1:25 p.m., fire officials provided an update indicating that teams were collaborating with Metro to ventilate the Pennsylvania Avenue SE station.
