The defence ministers of Sweden and Lithuania said Tuesday they were “deeply concerned” by the severing of an undersea telecom cable connecting the countries, which is being investigated as sabotage.

“We are deeply concerned by the severed undersea cable connecting Lithuania and Sweden in the Baltic Sea,” Swedish Defence Minister Pal Jonson and Lithuanian counterpart Laurynas Kasciunas said in a joint statement. They added that “situations like these must be assessed with the growing threat posed by Russia in our neighbourhood as a backdrop.”
