A passenger train derailment in New York City resulted in at least 13 injuries, as reported by authorities.

The incident occurred when a Long Island Rail Road train, en route to Hempstead, derailed to the east of Jamaica Station, specifically at 175th Street and 95th Avenue in Queens. The event took place around 11:12 a.m. on Thursday, according to a statement by a Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) official.

All eight train cars derailed during the incident, as stated by MTA Chairman and CEO Janno Lieber during a press briefing later in the evening.

The injured individuals suffered leg and back injuries, fortunately not considered critical.

Video footage captured firefighters transferring passengers from the derailed train to a rescue train, connected by a small platform.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul emphasized the top priority of ensuring the safety of passengers and railroad workers and resuming train service as swiftly as possible, as she released a statement regarding the incident.

At the time, the cause of the derailment remained unknown, leaving MTA officials to anticipate continued service disruptions until Friday morning.
