Former President Donald Trump declared that the “temperature has to be brought down” amid outrage over the FBI raid on his estate.
“Whatever we can do to help — because the temperature has to be brought down in the country,” Trump told Fox News on Monday.
“If it isn’t, terrible things are going to happen,” the former president added.
He claimed his representatives had reached out to the Department of Justice to offer help. He also accused the FBI of a “sneak attack” on his Florida estate last week.
This was Trump’s first private interview after the raid on his private residence, Mar-a-Lago, last week. FBI agents seized classified records, including some marked as top secret, during the search.
Trump questioned the classification of those records, claiming the records were declassified.
“The country is in a very dangerous position. There is tremendous anger like I’ve never seen before, over all of the scams. And this new one—years of scams and witch hunts, and now this,” Trump said.
“If there is anything we can do to help, I, and my people, would certainly be willing to do that.”
Trump said there has never been a time like this when law enforcement agencies had to break into the residence of a former president of the United States.
He reiterated: “There is tremendous anger in the country—at a level that has never been seen before, other than during very perilous times.”
The former president said his team has not heard back from the Justice Department on whether they would accept his help.
Trump told Fox News that the FBI agents broke into his house. “A sneak attack where no one ever thought a thing like this would happen,” he said.
He said the agents told his team to “turn off the camera,” and ordered “no one can go through the rooms.”
He went on to suggest that the law enforcement agents “could have planted anything they wanted” during the raid.
