President Donald Trump’s administration plans to gut a US agency that has invested billions in infrastructure in Africa, ceding ground in a key area of competition with China, according to a memo described to AFP Wednesday.
A memo sent to staff said that Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency will impose a “significant reduction” in programs and staff at the Millennium Challenge Corporation, which was founded two decades ago to provide US investment in developing countries that meet standards on democracy and good governance.
