Turkey calls Azerbaijan operation in Karabakh ‘necessary’

Azerbaijan’s close ally Turkey on Tuesday defended Baku’s military operation against its breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh as “necessary” for ensuring its legitimate security concerns.

“As a result of the legitimate and justified concerns it has repeatedly expressed… Azerbaijan has taken the measures it deems necessary on its own sovereign territory,” the Turkish foreign ministry said, adding that it backed “the continuation of comprehensive negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia”.
