UK records 104 more monkeypox cases

The Health Security Agency (HSA) reported 104 new cases of monkeypox in the United Kingdom, bringing the total to 470.

According to Xinhua news agency, the HSA has urged people in Britain to contact a sexual health clinic if they have a rash with blisters and have been in close contact, including sexual contact, with someone who has or might have monkeypox (even if they haven’t been tested yet), or have travelled to West or Central Africa in the previous three weeks.

“Anyone can get monkeypox, particularly if you have had close contact, including sexual contact, with an individual with symptoms,” it said.

According to the HSA, 452 of the 470 cases were reported in England, 12 in Scotland, 4 in Wales, and 2 in Northern Ireland.

According to the HSA, the majority of cases have been detected in men who are gay, bisexual, or have sex with men.

On June 8, a new law declaring monkeypox a legally notifiable disease went into effect in the United Kingdom, requiring all doctors in England to notify their local council or local Health Protection Team of any suspected cases.

As of Wednesday, 35 countries had reported 1,678 cases in total.
