US lawmakers head for holidays, leaving Ukraine in lurch

The US House of Representatives voted Thursday to green-light funding most of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), bringing an end to a record 75-day partial shutdown of the federal government.

The Senate-passed bill, which is expected to be signed into law by President Donald Trump, will reopen the DHS without any new cash for immigration and border enforcement, controversial agencies that Democrats wanted to see reformed.
