The US Federal Reserve chair told Donald Trump on Thursday that the bank’s decision-making process must remain “non-political,” after he was called in for a White House sit-down with the president.

Jerome Powell “did not discuss his expectations for monetary policy, except to stress that the path of policy will depend entirely on incoming economic information and what that means for the outlook,” the Fed said in a statement, describing the highly unusual meeting between the two men.
