Venezuela’s armed forces on Monday “categorically” rejected a call made by opposition figure Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia for their support of his claim to the presidency after elections last year he insists were stolen by incumbent Nicolas Maduro.

The request, in a video published on X, was met with “deep indignation,” said a statement read on national television by Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino, who reiterated the armed forces’ “loyalty, obedience and subordination,” to Maduro.
