The White House warned Friday that it will not negotiate with Republican hardliners on raising the debt ceiling to avoid the potential for a US debt default.

“We will not be doing any negotiation,” President Joe Biden’s press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, said.

“There has been bipartisan cooperation when it comes to lifting the debt ceiling and that’s how it should be,” she said. “It should not be a political football.”
