App Store bug shows square icons for iPhone apps

Many Apple users have started noticing a strange bug in the App Store where some iPhone apps are showing square icons instead of rounded ones. The app store bug is gaining attention on social media, as many users are expressing dissatisfaction. What is even more annoying is that the issue affects some iPhones, while others look perfectly rounded.

Social media and forums are on fire as many iPhone users are discussing a weird square icon glitch appearing in the App Store. What we notice is that before installing the most recent iOS 26.5 beta 2 update, the app icons appeared perfectly in tests. However, after installation, the ‘square app store’ bug started showing.

However, comments and reports indicate that it is not restricted to the new beta. The ChatGPT, Gemini, and Perplexity symbols were all broken, but the Grok app icon appeared to be intact. Many others have reported seeing it in the most recent public iOS 26.4 update, as well as 26.3.1. One user reported that their friend had the square YouTube icon but standard ChatGPT. Another user who tested the 26.5 beta stated that the issue only affected a few apps. Viktor Seraleev reported that MyFitnessPal had turned square in the US shop, and later confirmed that it felt like a bug.

A Redditor, Huge-Bill4047, posted about their dissatisfaction with the App Store bug that is showing square icons of some iPhone apps. Many comments also condemned Apple for the latest development. Some people suggested that this might be a future leak of iOS 27. While some called it ugly and wished the company would make a quick fix to the flat design.

Apple’s Response is Pending

Currently, the bug is only showing square icons of some iPhone apps. However, it doesn’t affect the apps’ functions. As such, it looks more like just a display hiccup rather than a bug that breaks the app.

Sadly, Apple has yet to publicly talk about the App Store bug that is showing square icons for iPhone apps. We will keep an eye out for a fix to the app store glitch. If we find something worth sharing, we will update this page. If you notice sharp edges on your iPhone today, don’t worry—your screen isn’t broken. Instead, it’s just the most recent Apple software bug.
