East China’s Jiangxi province issued a flood warning on Monday, citing high water levels in local rivers.
According to the provincial hydrological monitoring centre, heavy rains in Jiangxi have caused the first floods of the year in the Changjiang and Xiuhe rivers.
It was estimated that the water level in Poyang, China’s largest freshwater lake, would continue to rise in the next four days as a result of the heavy rain, and that this could cause a flood if the water rose 0.4 metres above the warning level.
