According to multiple reports, Apple’s HomeKit smart devices are showing a ‘No response‘ error.

The platform recently went through an architectural change with the 16.3 update, which might be the cause of the issue.

Reports of HomeKit smart devices ‘No response’ error

HomeKit is Apple’s software system for smart home appliances, offering a secure and simple platform for managing and automating compatible devices, including voice control with Siri and other features.

It also works with other Apple services like Apple TV, which serves as a central hub for remote access and automation.

This issue, in which devices stop responding at regular intervals, appears to have begun with the 16.2 update and persists with 16.3.

Users took to Apple’s community forum and Reddit to share their concerns.

A user posted: “I upgraded my devices to 16.3. I have almost 20 devices in Apple home. Since the upgrade, the majority of the devices saw no response. I reset my Apple TV and it resolved the issue temporarily, but I woke up this morning and the majority of my devices say no response. Any suggestions?”

Another user reported: “Homekit camera becomes non-responsive when trying to view live from one particular iPhone. I recently got a Eufy Indoor Cam 2K and have set it up with Homekit and it works great when monitoring from multiple MacBooks, Apple TVs and iPhones, except for my personal iPhone X (iOS 16.2).”

Potential workarounds

Rebooting or reconfiguring Apple home has temporarily resolved the issue for some users.

One potential workaround was shared by a Redditor who fix the error by changing their network settings.

They posted: “I had this problem; I fixed it by undoing the double-NAT network and just running a normal single NAT network. Example Google instructions here.”

Another user shared a detailed guide that involves updating to a new HomeKit architecture which could potentially solve the problem.

Apple has not yet acknowledged the issue even after multiple reports across various communities.

However, Apple must resolve this issue promptly because it can be inconvenient for users who have invested in a smart home setup only to deal with the ongoing issues.
