Bob Lee, the creator of Cash App, was attacked and stabbed to death on Tuesday night in San Francisco, ABC7 News reported.

According to the police, a 43-year-old man was discovered with visible stab wounds. And he was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He later passed away, according to police reports.

Some of Lee’s high-profile acquaintances in the tech industry have expressed their love for him on social media. They are shocked and frustrated by his death.

The CEO of Abra stated that Lee was a father and a “generous decent human being who didn’t deserve to be killed.”

MMA fighter Jake Shields also posted on social media. He suggested that Lee was the victim of a random mugging or attack, as he was in a safe area of the city.

Jack Dorsey, CEO of Square parent Block, shared that Lee’s death was “real. Getting calls. Heartbreaking. Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App.”

Lee was also the CPO of MobileCoin, a cryptocurrency company based in San Francisco.

Before his current position, he served as the Chief Technology Officer at Square, a mobile payment app, and had previous work experience at Google.

CEO of MobileCoin pays tribute to Lee, while an investigation into his death continues

According to a statement from Joshua Goldbard, CEO of MobileCoin, Lee played a crucial role in creating CashApp and Android.

He described Lee as a visionary and called MobileCoin his brainchild, a secure wallet designed for the modern era. Goldbard added that he would miss Lee greatly.

“Bob was a dynamo, a force of nature. Bob was the genuine article,” Josh Goldbard said. “He was made for the world that is being born right now, he was a child of dreams, and whatever he imagined, no matter how crazy, he made real.”

Goldbard did not provide any details about the cause of Lee’s death.

As of early Wednesday, no arrests related to the case have been reported. The San Francisco Police Department’s homicide detail is currently investigating the incident, according to a statement made on Tuesday.
