A member of the Chinese delegation at the Bali meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Joe Biden on Monday yanked and shoved a US journalist as she tried to ask about human rights.

The journalist, a producer for a US TV network, was part of the small group of journalists allowed to witness the start of the Xi-Biden meeting.

She asked the US leader whether he would bring up rights issues during his talks.

The question was shouted at the moment that the two presidents paused after making their introductory remarks, while the group of journalists started leaving the room. The practice is routine for journalists covering the White House.

As the producer spoke, an unidentified man from the Chinese delegation, wearing a Covid mask with a Chinese flag on it, pulled her backwards by her backpack, making her lose balance.

He then pushed her toward the door.

Two White House staff members intervened saying the producer should be left alone.
