NYC Mayor Eric visited a Mexican shelter on Thursday where he encouraged migrants to stay away. However, Genso Perez remained unfazed by his warnings of overcrowding, Daily Mail reported Friday.

“I don’t care if the place is crowded,” Perez said at a shelter located approximately an hour’s drive away from where Adams was being awarded an honorary degree. “I want to be part of the crowd and want to be one of many.”

Mayor Eric’s Mexican shelter message and Perez’s ongoing trek from Venezuela

Right around the time Mayor Adams arrived in Mexico City on Wednesday evening, 32-year-old Perez was disembarking from La Bestia, the renowned freight train used by hundreds of thousands of migrants heading north. Perez alighted near the tracks in Apizaco, a city located a couple of hours to the east of the capital. This marked the most recent stop on his arduous 33-day journey from Venezuela.

This is what Mayor Adams is confronting during his four-day journey through Central and South America. His mission is to convey the message that New York City is currently at capacity and cannot accommodate additional arrivals in search of a better life.

During his visit, he openly discussed the challenges posed by some migrants in the places they settled. As part of his trip, Mayor Adams paid a visit to the Basilica de Guadalupe, a significant place of prayer for migrants before they journey to the United States. He then engaged in a series of intensive meetings. Mayor Adams highlighted that the influx of asylum seekers in New York City has reached a point where there is limited capacity to accommodate them.

Mayor Adams dismisses myths about New York for migrants

Shelters are bursting at the seams due to the arrival of nearly 120,000 migrants in New York over the past year. In fact, one of his top advisers went as far as urging the Biden administration to shut down the border.

At the conclusion of his initial full day in Mexico, Mayor Adams emphasized to reporters that his message was unequivocal: The streets of New York are not lined with gold.

We’re saying to those migrants and asylum seekers,’ he said, ‘that when you come to New York, unlike what has what has been told to you: that you are going to receive a job that you’re going to automatically receive a job that you’re automatically going to be placed in a hotel, that there’s this endless flow of resources coming from New York City…we’re saying that is not true.’
