Dollar surges against pound on central bank watch

The dollar soared against the British pound Thursday after the US Federal Reserve hiked interest rates and indicated they would go higher than expected to combat sky-high inflation.

In morning London deals, the pound sank 1.2 percent to $1.1254, also ahead of an expected bumper rate hike from the Bank of England.
