Elon Musk believes he can double Twitter revenue via subscriptions by 2028

According to The New York Times, tech billionaire Elon Musk expects Twitter to earn nearly $10 billion in subscription revenue by 2028, more than doubling the platform’s total revenue of $5 billion last year.

Elon Musk gave investors a taste of what to expect under his ownership in a pitch deck obtained by the Times.

According to The Verge, this includes increasing Twitter Blue subscribers to 69 million by 2025 and more than doubling that number to 159 million by 2028.

Twitter Blue, which debuted last year, is a $2.99/month subscription that grants users access to a “undo tweet” button, app customization, ad-free articles, and other exclusive features.

Musk anticipates a significant increase in total Twitter users, from the 217 million reported last year to 600 million in 2025 and, eventually, 931 million in 2028.

The pitch deck also details Musk’s plans for an unnamed subscription service outside of Blue called “X,” which he expects to have nine million subscribers in 2023 and 104 million by 2028.

Musk recently hinted at charging governments and corporations a “small fee” to use Twitter.

Whatever subscription “X” is, revenue from it and Blue combined is expected to reach $10 billion by 2028, accounting for a sizable portion of the $26.4 billion in total revenue Musk anticipates for the service that year, according to the report.
