Elon Musk’s Boring Company applies to dig tunnel beneath Tesla Gigafactory Texas

Elon Musk’s Boring Company has applied to dig a tunnel beneath Tesla Gigafactory Texas in Austin, but it is unclear what they intend to do with it.

The Boring Company has been in talks with the state and municipal governments about several projects since moving to Texas, but as far as we know, none of them have moved forward until now, according to the auto-tech website Electrek.

The company has now applied to the city of Austin for permission to construct a tunnel on the Tesla Gigafactory Texas property for the project “Colorado River Connector Tunnel.”

According to the report, the applicant has proposed a private access tunnel as well as associated improvements.

The main project of The Boring Company is its “loop” in Las Vegas. A Boring Company loop is a network of tunnels in which Tesla electric vehicles transport people between stations to avoid surface traffic, similar to a subway but with smaller vehicles that can stop wherever they want.

The company has been looking into other projects across the United States, but no major projects have been announced.

The Boring Company has focused on projects in Texas since relocating to Pflugerville, just outside of Austin, but this is the first time it has applied for a building permit.
