Google helped boost Obama and Clinton’s presidential runs while censoring Republicans, the NY Post reported citing The Media Research Center report.

Google’s alleged political bias in supporting Obama, Clinton campaigns and AI image controversy

The Media Research Center (MCR) alleged that Google has been favoring Democratic candidates in the past four presidential elections by censoring Republicans.

The watchdog published a report claiming that since 2008, Google has been involved in 41 instances of what they call “election interference.” The MRC accused Google in their report.  They wrote that Google “utilized its power to help push to electoral victory the most liberal candidates … while targeting their opponents for censorship.”

Additionally, Google has faced criticism for its Gemini AI image generator. It has generated images portraying historically inaccurate scenarios such as black Vikings, female popes, and Native Americans depicted among the Founding Fathers.

The report was released a few weeks after AllSides conducted an analysis. It revealed that Google News, a news aggregator, showed even more bias in 2023 compared to previous years.

As for Google, it has denied the allegations made by MRC.

Elon Musk shared his thoughts on the matter through a post on his social media platform. Musk wrote that Google “interferes to help Democrats thousands of times every election season. This is to be expected when their censorship (aka ‘Trust & Safety’) teams are have far left political views.”

Musk reacted to a post containing a screenshot of The Post’s article discussing MRC’s report.

MRC acuses Google of favoring Obama over Clinton

In 2008, MRC claimed that Google supported then-Senator Barack Obama (D-Illinois) over Hillary Clinton during their Democratic nomination battle.

According to the MRC report, Google “targeted support for Hillary Clinton for censorship” by “suspending the accounts of writers who wrote blogs critical of Obama during his primary race against Clinton.”

After four years, Google, which “once again favored Obama over Mitt Romney,” refused to rectify a “Google bomb” that smeared GOP primary candidate Rick Santorum, as per the report.

The MRC study quote data from Dr. Robert Epstein, who told Congress that Google’s search algorithm “shifted at least 2.5 million votes” to Clinton in her failed race against Donald Trump.

A source with connections to Google denied the accusation. They stated that the company’s automated systems detected unusual activity triggered by significant spending changes, aiming to prevent fraud. According to the source, the issue was addressed and resolved within six hours.
