Many iPhone users have reported a strange bug after upgrading to iOS 17, where the vibration function is not working in silent mode.

Reports of iPhone vibration not working after iOS 17

Usually, when you have your phone in your pocket or close by, the way it vibrates is the main signal that tells you when you have new texts or calls.

But that’s not the only problem bothering iPhone users who’ve made the jump to iOS 17. Some recent issues include apps gobbling up too much storage space, phones getting too hot, and problems with the iMessage search history, among others. While the overheating problem has been tackled in a recent iOS update, we’re hopeful that future updates will also fix these other bugs.

This issue isn’t limited to specific iPhone models. Even people using the latest iPhone 15 with iOS 17 installed have experienced this problem. Many iPhone users with different models have reported the same issue, suggesting it’s related to the iOS 17 update.

People have been expressing their frustration because their iPhones aren’t vibrating when they’re in silent mode. It becomes even more annoying when you’re waiting for an important call or message and you miss it.

Steps to take

It’s worth noting that Apple allows iPhone users to turn vibration on or off during silent mode. You can find this option in the Settings under the ‘Sound and haptics’ section. However, some users are saying that even when they have the ‘Play in silent mode’ feature turned on in the Haptics section, the vibrations still aren’t working.

The vibration feature, especially in silent mode, is a useful way to get an alert when you have new messages or calls. When this feature isn’t working, it can be really inconvenient. It makes it harder for people to stay informed about messages and calls without causing a disturbance.

Make sure your Vibration Settings are ON. The first thing to do is check if your iPhone’s vibration settings accidentally got turned off, which could stop vibrations even when your phone is in silent mode. To confirm that vibrations are enabled:

You can also give these steps a try:

  • Open the Settings app and tap “Accessibility”.
  • Then, select “Touch” from the Accessibility menu.
  • Ensure that the switch next to “Vibrations” is turned on.

For now, while the problem is not fixed, it’s a good idea for users to avoid putting their iPhone on silent mode. Otherwise, they might miss important notifications. It’s worth noting that Apple hasn’t officially acknowledged this problem yet, but we’ll keep you updated on any developments in this article when they do.
