Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, the wife of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, made an announcement on Wednesday stating that they have decided to separate after being married for 18 years.

Grégoire Trudeau, who was formerly a television reporter, married Trudeau in 2005, and together, they have three children.

In a 2005 interview with Maclean’s magazine, Trudeau revealed that their romantic relationship began after they co-hosted the Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix ball, a fundraising event for a children’s foundation. He described a strong chemistry between them, marked by laughter and jokes.

Their wedding in May 2005 at Montreal’s Sainte-Madeleine d’Outremont church created a lot of excitement, even before Trudeau’s entry into politics.

Since Trudeau assumed office in 2015, Grégoire Trudeau has mostly kept a low profile, although she occasionally accompanied him during campaign trails. In a 2015 interview with Global News, she acknowledged that no marriage is without its challenges and expressed pride in the way they have dealt with hardships together.

Grégoire-Trudeau emphasized the importance of authenticity, truth, and personal growth throughout their lifetime. Both she and Trudeau are dreamers and expressed a desire to remain together for as long as possible. However, they have now chosen to go their separate ways.
