Myanmar’s ambassador to London told Reuters on Wednesday outside the embassy that he had been locked out because he angered the military after he called for the release of detained leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

“We request the release of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint,” he said in a statement posted on the embassy’s Facebook page.

A social media user who watched the incident said, “something odd happening at the Myanmar embassy in London. Police have cordoned off the road and the ambassador – seen here – seems blocked from entering. Members of the Burmese community are gathering outside.”
