Romania on Thursday said it had detected “cyberattacks” aimed at influencing its presidential election in which a far-right candidate took a shock lead at the weekend.
The country’s presidency said in a statement that top officials had reported “cyberattacks aimed at influencing the correctness of the electoral process” in Sunday’s vote.
It also noted “a growing interest” on the part of Russia “to influence the public agenda in Romanian society”, in the statement issued after a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defence.
