Many people in Russia reportedly received the “nuclear strike has been conducted” alert on Thursday. But it was later revealed that the warning was triggered by a suspected hacking of the broadcasting servers.
It is the third time media stations in the country have broadcast hoax warnings in just over two weeks.
In Yekaterinburg, Moscow, and the Sverdlovsk regions of Russia, TV and radio broadcasts issued urgent alerts for citizens to seek shelter and take calcium iodide pills.
According to Metro News, Russia’s emergencies ministry said, ‘a false air raid alert was broadcast in Moscow after servers of radio stations and TV channels were hacked.’
