The Last of Us part II or simply called The Last of Us 2 is a sequel to the original game The Last of Us and it was planned to be released in June 2020, however, during the final weekend of April, numerous videos started popping up on YouTube showing spoilers for the upcoming video game.
The Last Of Us 2 Actual Spoilers
The video clips in question appear to show scenes from the Last of Us 2 trailer that was revealed during E3 2018, Ellie’s relationship with Dina as well as other spoilers such as the role of Joel in the game. Alongside the videos, a level list was leaked which indicated that players will be swapping characters throughout the game which makes sense and would allow players to experience the story from different angles. Upon taking a closer look at the dates that were contained in screenshots and video footage, we can conclude that the footage in question is from the internal builds of the game which already existed in February and March this year.
All of the original videos that were uploaded to YouTube have been taken down by the time of writing this, but it appears that backup of the Last of Us 2 Spoilers and leaked links are still circulating the internet on various websites and forums.
What makes this matter a lot worse than it seems is that a group of players who have been originally planning to purchase The Last of Us 2 has now changed their minds upon seeing the spoilers which reveal most of the major plot points of the story. This could impact the sale figures of the game after its launch and it is worth mentioning that due to the outbreak of COVID 19 pandemic, Sony has stated on multiple occasions that there might be some logistics problems which are out of their hands when it comes to delivering physical copies of the game in certain parts of the world, which is another thing that could potentially hurt sales figures.
Naughty Dog’s Response
In regards to the first issue, Naughty Dog has Tweeted a message on their official Twitter page stating that the final experience of the game is still worth it, regardless of the Last of Us 2 spoilers.

Naughty Dog also had this to say in an email to Polygon:
“We’re disappointed that anyone would release unauthorized pre-launch footage of The Last of Us Part II, disrupt years of Naughty Dog’s hard work and ruin the experience for fans worldwide. We want everyone to have the opportunity to play The Last of Us Part II at the same time and ask that viewing or sharing of the unauthorized footage be avoided.”
Sony Interactive Entertainment also commented on the spoilers:
“We’re disappointed that anyone would release unauthorized pre-launch footage of The Last of Us Part II, disrupt years of Naughty Dog’s hard work and ruin the experience for fans worldwide. We want everyone to have the opportunity to play The Last of Us Part II at the same time and ask that viewing or sharing of the unauthorized footage be avoided.”
