According to the D.C. police, three officers were shot, and a suspect was reportedly shooting from a residence in Southeast D.C. on Wednesday.
The suspect, who remains barricaded in the house as of 9:20 a.m., has continued to shoot even after the police closed off several city blocks.
“Three officers have been injured. All three suffered non-life threatening injuries,” The Metropolitan Police Department wrote in a post on X, adding that the scene of the shooting in the southeastern part of the city “remains active.”
Reports suggest that officers might have been attempting to execute an arrest warrant in the 5000 block of Hanna Place Southeast, close to Benning Road and the Maryland border, early Wednesday, when gunfire erupted from within a residence. Surveillance footage captures a significant exchange of gunfire.
Multiple roads have been blocked around the 5000 Block of Hanna PL SE as law enforcement responds to the incident. Nearby schools are also reported to be on lockdown.
